Demo Version 1.26: The World's Latest Easter Update


Fun fact: this update was meant to be done in time for Easter this year. As you can probably tell, this did not, in fact, occur. Between too much stuff happening in real life and having too much unfinished stuff to wrap up, work on this update was slow AND it's pretty huge on top of that. But the silver lining is, you will now get a LOT of new Burgertale to chew on, including some important bugfixes and Lake Slushi finally becoming a real hub instead of the placeholder from the first-ever demo!

Changes in ver 1.26

  • Fixed softlock in Breathing Room escape due to slopes leading into wallruns being buggy (and with the prior collision mask update it was almost impossible to trigger the wallruns properly due to either losing all speed or instantly bonking into the ceiling)
  • New level: Astral Yolktower! Can you finally figure out the purpose of the Essence Orbs? Features an even harder puzzle than the Mystery of the Ring!
  • New level: Hidden Ninja Village! It's got traps, it's hard to find, it's got everything you want in a hidden ninja village!
  • New level: Candles in the Blizzard! Can you find your way around the darkest level yet, or will the way find YOU first?
  • New level: Abyssal Plains! This one barely gives you any room to breathe...
  • New secret area in Chessmaster's Tomb, with an optional boss! Not much harder than Cursed King, mostly intended as an extra challenge for beginners.
  • Completely new music for Nugget Mines ~ Royal Halls (the Frutian Castle level), I never really liked how the original song turned out.
  • Polish for Assault On Cowboy Town:
    • Revisiting the level after beating the boss, all the security lockdown doors are open so you can explore freely.
    • There's a prop alerting you to the rolling boulder trap so it's not COMPLETELY unfair.
    • Replaced both the challenges that were just 'use a double-jump / spellboost' with proper platforming and minisecret bits.
    • Added ability for rooms to ignore darkness, so the casino mood lighting won't 'leak out' into the outdoor areas in weird ways.
    • Tons of new decorations so the level feels less unfinished.
    • Foxling Desperados are now immune to knockback and have much shorter delays between attacks. This also fixes the bug where attacking them during an attack would get them stuck in an infinite loop of doing that attack over and over.
    • Some new social areas, including new loot and a mirror so you can switch accessories mid-level.
    • Hints for the secret food stash and the combination lock puzzle.
  • Movie world overhaul:
    • The passage under the steamboat and the breakable tunnel in the sewers have been implemented.
    • New optional area in Steamboat Dracula, the Cat-Acombs! Fight a new optional boss for something really powerful...
    • Replaced the groundpound-breakable block near the pig miners with a snowball block (forgot to do this when deciding to not use the same block everywhere)
    • Extra puzzle step in getting the Staff Key, should also make it more clear there's a secret to begin with.
  • Circus Mines tweaks:
    • The end of the Anomaly is now a separate room so the warp marker is placed in a more indicative spot
    • The unfinished area in the top right is now done (I don't remember my original plans so I just put some fitting loot and traps here)
    • New secret with a Chromosphere
  • Expanded Castle Town, with several new shortcuts, shops and events. Removed the anchor block in the flooded canal to let you go there immediately.
  • Expanded Lake Slushi, since three of the new levels are found here this was pretty much a necessity!
  • New shortcut-warp in Nexus Lake Slushi hub between Deep Sea and entrance to Lake Slushi.
  • New story scenes for Lake Slushi! Get to know the next set of villains before you meet them first-hand...
  • Removed the weird path used by Terse to escape after taunting you for Nugget Mines bad ending, THERE'S A WARP RIGHT THERE and having this random alternate route just felt weird.
  • Crouching now actually affects your hitbox (previously you could get hit by projectiles you visually dodged)
  • Fixed shooting position never updating when you are on a Funky Slope on orbiting a planetoid, causing disjointed spellcasting.
  • Tried fixing the issue where getting crushed between a moving platform and a wall sometimes didn't work (using a stupid solution where there's invisible markers in all designated crushing spots which detect nearby moving platforms, because I legitimately forgot how the logic works and don't wanna mess with it now)
  • Lowered the cost of Dubious / Verdant Shroom in Serri & Dan's shop (so they're cheaper than LifeMush which is objectively better)
  • Tons of new accessories! Ninja scrolls, magic-enhancing prisms and some other surprises.
  • Fixed softlock when unleashing a tornado dash into a wind zone (now the tornado dash state ALSO ignores windzones, not just the tornado charge)
  • Fixed the bottom right room in Bread Ruins ~ Ancient Labyrinth library zone being inaccessible with base movement speed (some physics update in the past messed that one up...)
  • Tippy in Bread Ruins ~ Ancient Labyrinth now reacts to concluding Frie's story.
  • Tweak: accessory effects are now recomputed on knockout / time down / purification, so you get fully healed when clearing a stage (and once-per rest effects like the Bright Soul's reusable healing are reset without having to interact with a mirror).
  • Fixed patrol mines destroying non-deflectable bullets like the Focus Laser
  • Fixed bullets created when patrol mines explode counting as Ghostflame projectiles
  • Fixed Hunter Bass terrain hitbox being too big so they couldn't fit through small spaces they were supposed to chase you through
  • Breadshrooms now switches from patrolling to chasing you if you hit them in the back, instead of only doing so when they see you.
  • Some rooms in Burger Nexus that had shopkeepers or important characters weren't flagged as such on the map.
  • Fixed the Torch weapon providing light underwater (that's not how fire works...)
  • Fixed the Prism spell giving hit enemies iframes, making it impossible for all three shots to hit the same target.
  • Fixed the first boulder on Lever Action red path not having enough room to fit and immediately breaking after spawning.
  • Fixed priority of effects that affects damage taken (Berserker Shroom capping damage at 1 point is applied AFTER all multipliers, accessibility options that halves damage now actually halves the final value as intended instead of always setting it to 0.5x)
  • Inventory menu now stretches long item names down to fit in the boxes (fixing a bunch of long names that bled outside the box).
    • Renamed Vampire Bonker back to its original name Vampire Incapacitor because of this
  • Lazy Liquor now inflicts Sleepy instead of Paralyzed.
  • The delay before you can open the pause menu again while Sleepy is greatly extended (to avoid getting stuck in a loop due to the delayed input from unpausing)
  • Food that grants more than one buff / ailment won't crash the game when spawning the particle effect anymore.
  • Fixed some food that restores negative HP not having a minus sign in front of the preview text.
  • Fixed the blue effect when you swim in background layer water also permanently applying to regular water after being triggered.
  • New secret in Bread Ruins ~ Ancient Labyrinth.
  • Rewrote / expanded dialogue about Gupreda's grandkids / Starfall Ring to patch up some plot holes and inconsistencies.
  • Max now acknowledges if you obey the dress code with the Edgy, Steamboater or Monochrome chromospheres.
  • Shortened description of Blast Suit so it fits in mirror menu textbox.
  • Escapecoins now always glow in dark areas (and have stronger light than before)
  • Fixed the 'this has to be where the hidden passage is gonna be' message still existing at the fake door after getting access to Assault On Cowboy Town
  • Fixed glitched audio for 1 frame when loading into any hub area with alternate music (Circus, Castle Town, etc)
  • New Eugene encounters!
  • Tweaked Eugene's face since it was rushed and had very low detail.
  • Fixed "deceipt" typo in Celine poisoned tea dialogue.
