Version 1.33: New Frontiers
Burgertale » Devlog
Version 1.33 is another one of those "regular" updates I promised. Most of the new stuff is currently inaccessible work-in-progress stuff, but as you might notice on the filesize suddenly growing 20 MB, there's a lot of that. But just because I'm working on something big doesn't mean I'm gonna hold the bugfixes hostage any longer... and there's even some completely new content as a little treat~
Changes
- New level: Lost Forest! Get a first look at the Nameless Institute, including part of the Nexus hub for it!
- New level: Cowloon's Gate! Get a first look at Cowloon too!
- Added some failsafe code that forces you to move through one-way platforms if you can't stand on them, which should fix multiple separate ways to get stuck inside a downwards platform by changing directions at the wrong time.
- Slight increase to jump height when standing still and holding the run button (now you will be able to clear a 6-block gap instead of narrowly missing), this should fix some inconsistencies that were often masked by the old one-way platform collisions being too generous.
- Fixed landing on a Funkyslope while holding the jump button immediately causing you to jump off again instead of it only reacting to new presses (relevant in Astral Yolktower and other places where you need to do precision jumps between funkyslope objects)
- Fixed dying due to falling out of the level in the cutscene after the Frie boss battle, which ended the scene early and skipped dialogue.
- Fixed incorrectly placed killboxes in Draculinda's Castle clock tower causing you to get crushed by platforms that should be safe to stand on
- Fixed Slim Jimmy and Deputy Carrol being gone until you reload the area after the scene where you first meet them
- Fixed an issue where NPCs that move around conditionally (e.g. Circus queue, Frie in the catacombs) could still be interacted with when they're not there, if you managed to align yourself perfectly to the position they are at when active
- Fixed cutscene Saltman not being removed from Frie's Rest on evil route
- Saltman now has special insults for several other weapons instead of always implying you're using the Backstabber
- If you used the Liontamer on Saltman's lion he acknowledges it in the post-battle dialogue instead of giving you all the credit for beating him
- Added invisible walls around Circus entrance that activate while Carrol is following you, so you can't take her for a walk across the entire Nexus and break the cutscenes
- Reworked water object placement in Bubble Trouble to look better at screen edges (no abrupt cuts).
- Waste of Space's space stations now are color-coded on the map to aid in navigation
- Tweaked some ceilings in Chessmaster's Tomb and Bread Ruins Main to prevent softlocks if you enter some hidden areas during Burger Flip
- Tweaked some one-way platforms in Nugget Mines ~ City of the Ancient to prevent softlock when multiflipping and fix it being impossible to reach top and mystery zone crystal burgers while upside-down.
- Fixed Great Sea not being possible to multiflip because of leveldesign in Tapwater Falls. Also removed a potential softlock when going through Prickly Pear Cove backwards upside-down.
- Patch up visual holes between diagonal iceblocks and regular ground in Frozen Ocean, Lady Goldfish's Trap
- Fixed afterimages from Sharktooth Necklace not using your active palette.
- New synergy: Sharktooth Necklace powers up Shark Plushie and makes it armor-piercing.
- Added hitbox size customization to Sleepshrooms and made one that can leak out of its room in Lady Goldfish's Trap not do that anymore, plus lowered the range of some along the climb to Speckled Springs as well so you can avoid them with careful movement instead of being forced to navigate while Sleepy.
- Fixed investigating the movie posters in Florence's Domain not being guaranteed to show messageboxes on the lower half of the screen after they scroll into view
- Adjusted terrain hitboxes for venus flytraps and snowball throwers to prevent them from getting stuck on thin air (hitbox was much larger than visuals due to their attack animation unintentionally being taken into account)
- Made Introspection bullets bounce on solid objects and not just tiles
- Fixed Shark Scientists often shooting straight into the ground and immediately destroying their projectiles, especially the one right next to the shortcut in Frozen Ocean. Now they are only allowed to aim directly at you if you're ABOVE them.
- Fixed all types of enemy Foxlings not aggroing if you shot them when they look away from you
- Added a system to prevent summoned/infinitely spawning enemies from respawning on a Double Flip and applied it to some notable examples (e.g. the Corpus zombies in Draculinda's Castle)
- Added a platform to the walljump section starting off the Draculinda's Castle clock tower so you don't need to wait for the gears and moveplatform to line up before you can start climbing
- Fixed a ceiling being too low for Corpus to fit under so they would get stuck if they spawned under that platform
- Slimepillar segments now despawn if you leave the room for some time, to fix them not despawning as intended during Burger Flip and also generally be less annoying
- Fixed collision issues with pushable block puzzle in Witchcraft Workshop where a block could land on a 1-pixel seam
- You now won't lose a spell altar charge when leaving a level (unless you die), this will be used for future puzzles
- Replaced the example vent in Cowloon warp room with a more interesting one.
- Gravity ailment now has half the duration, so you're not stuck unable to jump for a long time if you disengage or defeat the enemy.
